Surveys: Get Involved
The BTO - British Trust for Ornithology are looking for volunteers to do bird surveys around the UK and 2 we are primarily looking for coverage on Mull is WeBS (Wetland Bird Survey) and BBS (Breeding Bird Survey).
WeBS
WeBS - Wetland Bird Surveys are conducted on sites where any Wetland birds feed or roost. These include Waterfowl, Waders and Gulls.
These can be conducted by volunteers with any level of experience so don't be put off and the team here at Nature Mull are happy to provide guidance on these surveys.

There are quite a few sites available inland and coastally on Mull that are vacant where birds do gather and need counting!

Surveys take place once a month for corecounts but you can do counts any time and a telescope isnt a necessity! Some sites here on Mull can be covered with binoculars.

What you need to do:
Get in touch with us here at Nature Mull and let us known where you are based and how far you would be happy to travel to your survey site.
We will then direct you to the BTO and they will assign you a chosen site and you'll receive a welcome pack containing information, survey dates and straightforward methodology for doing the surveys.

BBS
BBS - Breeding Bird Surveys and WBBS (Waterways Breeding Bird Survey) are once again operated by the BTO where volunteers are assigned a square and you need to complete 3 visits: a recce, one early visit and one late visit during the breeding season, documenting any species breeding in that square.
