We organized a memorable stargazing evening on the picturesque island of Mull, where we welcomed three enthusiastic guests to join us for this celestial adventure. Two of our guests were picked up from the charming town of Tobermory, known for its colourful waterfront and vibrant atmosphere, while the third guest was collected from Craignure, a quaint village that serves as a gateway to the island. The journey to our destination was filled with anticipation, as we drove through the scenic landscapes of Mull, surrounded by rolling hills and stunning coastal views.

Upon arriving at our chosen dark sky site, which is renowned for its minimal light pollution, we settled in and prepared for an enchanting evening under the stars. The air was crisp and clear, providing the perfect backdrop for our stargazing experience. As we looked up at the vast expanse of the night sky, we took the time to learn about various stars and constellations, each with its own unique story and significance.

We were fortunate enough to witness several shooting stars streaking across the sky, which sparked excitement and wonder among our group as we made wishes and shared our thoughts on the beauty of the universe.

One of the highlights of the evening was the opportunity to view the magnificent planets Jupiter and Saturn through a telescope. As we gazed through the lens, we were captivated by the sight of Jupiter and its four largest moons, known as the Galilean moons, which were visible that night. Saturn, with its stunning rings, was equally awe-inspiring, and we took the time to discuss its unique features and the mysteries that surround it.

As the evening progressed, we took several breaks to enjoy hot drinks, which were very welcome in the cool night air. The warmth of our mugs provided comfort as we shared stories and engaged in lively discussions about astronomy and our personal experiences with the night sky. The camaraderie among the guests was palpable, as we bonded over our shared fascination with the stars and the wonders of the universe.

To conclude our extraordinary evening, we were treated to a breathtaking view of an auroral arc shimmering on the northern horizon and occasional faint columns. Ewan managed a few photos on a long exposure, which enhances the colours in camera compared with what we were seeing with the naked eye.

As we packed up our equipment and prepared to return to our starting points, we reflected on the magical experiences of the night, feeling grateful for the opportunity to connect with the cosmos and each other in such a profound way.
