Mull is back with some challenging weather conditions in the last few days, but there is still lots to see on the Island as we start to enter the end of August. The cetaceans are still active all around the island, and the eagles are putting on wonderful shows.

It was Wilderness Explorer Day, and naturally, the weather was wet and windy! During a walk around the loch, the tour had a brief glimpse of a juvenile white-tailed eagle. The guests could really see the "barn door" with their large rectangular wings. Following the white-tailed eagle, they saw a distant Golden Eagle perched on the rocky cliffs before it took flight. It was brilliant to see both eagles in the morning on the tour, despite the challenging conditions. Along the shoreline, there was a nice mixture of birds, including Oystercatchers, Grey Wagtails, Shags, and a Grey Heron.

The lunch break was very fruitful. Red deer stags were spotted on a distant ridge, an otter was fishing in the distance, and both seal species were hauled out. It was lots of fun looking at all these animals through the scope, which provided some beautiful views, especially of the otter hunting. Out of nowhere, a white-tailed eagle flew in and perched nobly in the wind and rain for a while before a juvenile white-tailed eagle appeared and landed beside the adult, offering an excellent view that the tour was overjoyed to see.

During the next stop for a brief afternoon walk, Theo quickly noticed a young male otter fishing near the shore. The tour settled down and watched the young male otter swim away without disturbance. Shortly after, an observant young guest had the find of the day, spotting a pod of Common Dolphins hunting further out. A second, larger pod joined them, and "we spent 30 minutes watching around 40 dolphins leaping and playing in the rain," Theo said. What a way to conclude a fantastic day in the rain! Forty dolphins is such a special moment; the whole tour was thrilled about the sighting. What a great spot from a guest.

Again, the weather was rather wet and challenging. Ditto to yesterday, Theo started the tour again with another wonderful white-tailed eagle flyby, which the whole tour managed to get great views of through their binoculars. The dolphin action continued into Friday, and a distant pod of Common Dolphins was spotted again, splashing around. It was great when the scope was all set up to see the dolphins diving everywhere. In addition to the dolphins, there were several herds of large red deer, a common sight across today's tour. However, the day's highlight occurred at the final stop.

During a coastal walk, they observed a dog otter fishing. After some time watching this giant dog otter, the tour returned to the van and discovered a female otter fishing near the shore. "She provided excellent views as she brought a fish to the shore and playfully rolled around on the seaweed, coming as close as 15 meters," Theo said.

Two brilliant tours in wet and windy conditions. Thank you to the guests for their patience, who were rewarded with some very special moments, especially with the common dolphins and the otter sightings.
