Manic May - if only the month was twice as long!
Nasty north - hats, gloves and layers! Cold northerly winds hit the island this week with guides and guests all layered up and ready for action! It did mean lots of dry weather and good clarity and visibility with the fresh temperatures! The wind switched to easterly later in the week and got slightly milder but still a real nip in the air! Greening up and the arrival of midges! The island has transitioned into a rich verity of greens now! It looks so lush and spectacular! M

A review of our Mull (and Ardnamurchan) tours - Week 27th April - 3rd May 2026
On Monday we provided two Mull Nature Explorer tours, meeting the guests in Tobermory. It appeared to be a very settled high pressure spell for the week ahead and highs of 18 degrees, so the short and shades were out along with the sun lotion! Ewan and group had great views of a golden eagle actively hunting in the heather! It may have been a field vole but even a cuckoo, which was nearby the area! An adult white-tailed eagle was also seen soaring to the east. Whimbrels were

Sunshine!
A very welcome settled high pressure spell has arrived on Mull and looks to be carrying on into next week as well. Beautiful sunshine with the songbirds in full voice! On Monday Theo provided tours for guests from the cruise liner Majestic Line. They managed to see a Golden Eagle chasing a Cuckoo! Also, a WT Eagle v close to Tobermory as well! Mum and cub Otter were also seen during the trip, all bathed in beautiful Hebridean sunrise. Jack had a Mull Nature Explorer with eigh

Sunny Ardnamurchan
A bright but breezy day to start before wind got up and cloud came in with a little rain. Theo and his group headed over to Ardnamurchan on the ferry crossing we had good numbers of Manx Shearwaters, Guillemots, Razorbills, Shags, Kittiwakes and a few Gannets. A single Common Dolphin leapt from the water a little distantly but didn't show again. Arriving at Kilchoan we spotted 2 White-tailed Eagles on the near hill side being harassed by Ravens. Onto our next stop we had good

Win some and lose some!
Ewan checked a few Golden Eagle territories on Friday, and it's at this time of the year that it is with negative emotions to see both adult birds on the wing for a prolonged period of time. Pictured is the female bird and the male is just of frame, indicating a failed breeding attempt for this pair for the fourth time in five years sadly. On Thursday Klay had two half day private tours and one of the highlights was seeing golden eagles mating! Another sighting of note was 7

First Cuckoo and Osprey!
Not as much rain as originally forcast this week but still slightly unsettled and a good wind blowing and gusting! It was warm on Tuesday, reaching 15 degrees, compared with the 2 degrees we got only a few days earlier! Klay had a tour on Tuesday and managed to get some moderate views of both eagle species and hen harriers. The eagles are sitting tight on their goose sized eggs right now so a bit tricker to spot at this critical time. Common Sandpiper on the shoreline of Loch

Merlin Madness!
Theo and Klay both had Mull Nature Explorers today, meeting the guests in Tobermory. It was quite a cold wind but mainly dry, which was a welcome change! WT Eagles were showing well on both tours and also views of Golden Eagles in different capacities. One of the highlights was this stunning male Merlin pictured! This is the ‘April spike’ with Merlins passing through the island on their way to more northern breeding grounds. Otters were seen on both tours, actively feeding in

Love is in the Air
Rain hammering down at first light and a tricky forecast so we provided a shorter 4 hour tour today. The guests were from Newcastle and Vancouver as we headed out to explore this magical island! We got onto two WT Eagles at our first stop, showing strong pair bonding with some close interactions. We then focussed on the coast and saw GN Divers, Slavonian Grebes and RB Mergansers. Further north we had a stunning male Hen Harrier before a superb overhead WT Eagles view! Harbour

Back to the winter tours!
Quite overcast and grey in the morning with a fresh northerly wind, very appropriate for the first winter day tour since March! Red throated diver and Harbour seals were a nice start before a little egret, buzzards and kestrels. A few attempts for the other raptor species to no avail before five species together at our lunch stop. Two Hen Harriers and both flavours of eagles on the distant skylines. At our toilet stop we had a spectacular otter encounter as we all got in a re

Last Nature Explorer of the season
Weather: a drizzly start eventually brightened into another calm, golden light day. Theo and group started with great views of an Otter enroute to our first stop, fishing close to shore from the van before popping up onto a small rock for a preen. Next the local WTE eventually flew into their usual perch in the spruce. Great-northern Divers, Slavonian Grebes and 2 Velvet Scoter were out in the loch. Onto the next sea loch we had another more distant Otter out fishing, a few S

Friday 24th October
Weather: Moderate breeze picking up through the day with heavy cloud mostly The days sightings included lots of Red Deer, a ringtail Hen Harrier and 2 male Hen Harrier, one of which gave great views quartering the flat grassland not far away, 3 sightings of sadly distant Golden Eagles, who despite the breeze didn't want to play ball, some sizeable flocks of Redwing and Fieldfare, Great-Northern Divers in the sea lochs and lots of Buzzards enjoying the breeze. The star sightin

Fridays Mull Nature Explorer
Bright spells and calm winds made for perfect conditions to explore Mull’s coast today before the cloud arrived in the afternoon. Our morning began at a sea loch where two magnificent White-tailed Eagles perched in the trees before lifting off to hunt across the water. Behind us, a solitary Otter quietly fished in the bay, surfacing close to shore and offering beautiful views. The excitement grew as a Golden Eagle appeared on a nearby hillside, slowly circling higher into the
