Jack’s Wednesday Tour - White-Tailed Eagles and Otters Galore

Jack had a challenging start due to windy conditions but managed to find a beautiful 2nd-year white-tailed eagle late in the morning. Then, a pair of white-tailed eagles flew straight past the guests before being mobbed by a peregrine falcon. Peregrines are very rare birds that nest on the high rocky cliffs around the jagged Mull coastline, unlike the giant spires of cathedrals where many are familiar with them nesting. They are the fastest animals in the world and are incredible to see against Mull's amazing backdrop.

Continuing with the white-tailed eagle action, the guests were treated to a nest with a very advanced chick, who is very close to fledging. The chick was brilliant in the scope, and it was great for the guests to see the similarities and differences between adult and juvenile eagles.

In the afternoon, the main target for all the guests was otters, so the attention turned to the sea lochs. It wasn't long before Jack spotted an otter hunting just in the waves close to shore. The guests were thrilled with this amazing sighting as it provided lovely views of this amazing mustelid.

Along another sea loch, it started raining heavily, but the tour stayed patient and was rewarded with another otter. It was a great way to wrap up an amazing tour, filled with two of Mull's most iconic wildlife species: the white-tailed eagle and the otter.

Ewan’s Wednesday Tour - Five Birds of Prey!

As always, Ewan met the guests in Tobermory for today’s Mull Nature Explorer tour. At their first moorland stop, the tour started incredibly with the sighting of three species of raptor straight away: buzzard, kestrel, and sparrowhawk. Also on the moorland, there was a fantastic find of a pregnant female slow worm.

At the lunch stop, the tour was fortunate to see not one but two golden eagles providing a close flyover! What a spectacular sight! The royalty of the skies, everyone on the tour was overjoyed with this experience, and it was definitely not going to be forgotten any time soon.

If this wasn't enough, there was even more eagle action after lunch as the tour had two further white-tailed eagles. It will never get old seeing the largest eagle in Europe on tours; just magnificent.

With some perseverance with the weather, the tour was rewarded with a mum and cub otter, playing frantically in the surface weed! The otters camouflage so amazingly with the chestnut seaweed, and it was a very wholesome moment to see the family playing together.

Lastly, to finish a brilliant tour, another white-tailed eagle perched up on a skerry, wrapping up another fantastic day on Mull.

Jack’s Thursday Tour - Reptiles Day

On the walking tour, the weather was nice for a change. Because of the recent bad weather, the reptiles seemed to be out in full force. The tour started with a big slow worm, a legless lizard that has been seen more often on the tours lately.

Then, an unreal bird sighting for a walking tour: a golden eagle hunting over the mountains. What an exciting sighting!

The tour continued to a wonderful old settlement, which provided views of two adders sunbathing for the first time in a while! To finish off a great walking tour, two more golden eagles made an appearance. Seeing three golden eagles on a walking tour is just incredible and made for a very successful day out with sightings for the tour.
